Prompt: How did you see yourself as an adult when you were a child?
Child Peter asked himself, how will it be when you are an adult? He said, I won't grow up.
Adult Benjamin asked himself, how will it be when you are an adult? He said, I will be a child.
Adult Alan asked, how will it be when as an adult, I am an adult? He said, am I?
Child Harold asked, how will it be when as a child, I am still a child? He said, happy that I don't have to be harranged anymore about what I will be when I grow up.
In this society, most adults are still childen. And most children were once adults.
If you are an adult, the best thing is to be what you want to be. And not be concerned about your age. If you are a child, the best thing is to be what you want to be, regardless of what the adults expect you to be.
When I was an adult, I thought like an adult, I talked like an adult, I acted like an adult, and I put away childish things. When I was a child, I thought like a child, I talked like a child, I acted like a child, and I put away adultish things. So which is which? When have we grown up?
Bob Dylan said, "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now."
When I was a child, I did not see myself as an adult when I grew up. I saw myself staying young. Not a child, not an adult, but a free spirit. It is hard, when so many people here in the USA aspire to be adults just so they can be the adult who bosses the children around of whatever age. What has life is flexible, able to learn and discover new ways to unfold and unfurl. The past becomes the support for what we can be, open to the future. The music is the thing. So, is that becoming an adult, or becoming a child? Maybe, just to live.
